Making the most of your treatmentAvoid strenuous activities for 24 to 48 hours after treatment – don’t try lifting, doing housework, or playing sport. Ask your practitioner how long you should wait before participating in any sports or exercise classes. Balance yourself when sitting, standing, walking, or driving…. Be aware of your posture: try not to slouch, don’t carry heavy bags – even quite small bags can put strain on your neck and back. Don’t make your muscles work harder than necessary or risk pulling yourself out of alignment. Be aware of the effects of heat and cold · Avoid hot baths for the first 24 hours. Heat relaxes the muscles, and immediately after a treatment too much muscle relaxation can counteract the effect of the adjustments made. (Warm baths and showers are fine.) · Apply cold in the form of ice packs (available from the clinic) or a bag of frozen peas if necessary, to any painful area, to reduce inflammation, ease pain, and help the muscles hold you in place. Always wrap the ice pack in a towel first and do not apply it directly to the skin. Drink plenty of water to flush away any toxins released during the healing process. Eat a simple diet which includes plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables. Avoid alcohol and caffeine until your body has settled down. If you have any concerns, please don’t hesitate to ring the clinic on 01295 811947. Leave a message if necessary.
