How long will it take?

Healing is a process not an event...

Most patients need between two and ten treatments, initially at weekly intervals and then gradually more widely spaced out.  By this time a noticeable change should have occurred although treatment may continue for longer.  However even a single treatment can give instant relief, together with a feeling of increased height as better alignment can make you feel straighter, taller, and more balanced.

“Prevention as well as cure”: once the problem has been resolved, regular check ups are recommended to keep your spine and joints functioning well.  It is important that the alignment of the skeleton is maintained to help avoid recurrence of problems, and encourage mobility and flexibility, as well as helping the autonomic system which feeds the organs of the body.

The number of treatments required varies according to a multitude of factors, not least how you treat your body especially immediately after treatment (see separate sheet for ways to help yourself after treatment):

  • The complexity of the problem: simple backache will often clear more quickly than a sciatic problem

  • How long you have had the problem: healing is a process which takes time; generally yesterday’s injury will resolve faster than one of 20 years’ standing.

  • Levels of fitness, stress, nutrition and lifestyle: broadly speaking the fitter you are, the quicker your body recovers, especially with the assistance of healthy food and adequate rest.
